Centro Comunitario Familias de Exito

July 12, 2011 :

We are so happy to see positive progress being made on behalf of the kids of Chicontla, Puebla, Mexico, many of whom are part of struggling coffee farming families.

As a result of Goldberry’s relationship with Centro Comunitario Familias de Exito (Family of Success Community Center) we were able to bring to light the need for facility expansion and improvement necessary to receive funding from Compassion International (CI) for a long term program that will provide a stronger spiritual/social foundation for kids in the area. Classroom and kitchen space, as well as kitchen equipment, were needed to allow Centro Comunitario Familias de Exito (CCFE) to appropriately host the program, and the local congregation was unable to raise the money for the expansion.

After hearing about the need, two local churches, Park Street Brethren Church and Five Stones Community Church, offered funds that would provide materials for the needed expansion. Local residents were willing to provide the construction labor necessary to complete the expansion. This progress was enough for Compassion International to commit to funding the program which provides training, positive influence, and nutrition to 150 children between the ages of 3 and 9, to fortify them for a life that resists the threats of poverty, drugs, teen suicide and teen pregnancy that have intensified since coffee market has been depressed in the area.

On May 7, with classrooms completed, CCFE celebrated the opening of the program, Integrated Development Center, with a ribbon cutting and 149 children started the program!

As of this date, funds for kitchen equipment have been donated, and a fully operational kitchen will be serving the program’s children with nutritious, dependable meals and snacks!!
